Bitcoin is good
for business.
Better payments today. Optionality for the future. We help Portland businesses start accepting bitcoin — and then we tell everyone about it.
Why businesses are saying yes
No contracts. No monthly fees. No new hardware required. Here's what accepting bitcoin actually does for a small business.
Keep more of every sale
Card processors take 2–4% of everything you earn. Bitcoin payments arrive directly to you for pennies — often fractions of a cent.
Get paid in seconds
Payments over the Lightning Network confirm almost instantly. No waiting days for a payout to clear your bank account.
No chargebacks
A bitcoin payment is final, like cash. No chargeback fraud, no disputed transactions eating into your margins.
New customers find you
People who hold bitcoin actively look for places to spend it. Getting on the map brings them through your door — often from across town.
Getting started is simpler than you think
Most shops are up and running in an afternoon, using a free app on a phone or tablet they already own.
Pick a wallet
Free point-of-sale apps built for merchants take minutes to set up. Not sure which one? Message us — helping with this part is kind of our thing.
Show a QR code
Your customer scans it with their phone, and you see the payment confirmed on your screen in seconds. That's the whole checkout.
Choose how you get paid
Keep it as bitcoin, or have it converted to dollars automatically the moment it arrives. Your business, your call.
Already on Square? You're closer than you think.
If your shop runs on Square, bitcoin is already built into your register — no new hardware, no new apps. Most eligible US sellers were even switched on automatically in March 2026. Here's the short version.
Why turn it on
Square charges a 0% processing fee on bitcoin payments through the end of 2026 (1% after that) — compare that to 2.6%+ for cards. You can settle in dollars automatically, so nothing about your bookkeeping has to change.
How to set it up
In your Square Dashboard, go to Banking → Bitcoin → Get started. Verify your business info, choose dollars or bitcoin for settlement, and you're done — it takes a few minutes. Many sellers will find it's already active.
How a sale works
Ring up the sale and select Bitcoin. A QR code appears, your customer scans it with any Lightning wallet (Cash App works), and the payment confirms in seconds. It shows up in your sales reports like any other transaction.
Good to know
Bitcoin payments work for purchases up to $600 (with a $20,000 daily limit), refunds are issued as a gift card for the dollar amount, and it's not yet available in New York.
Need a hand? Square's own guide walks through every step: Accept and manage bitcoin payments — or call Square support at 1‑855‑700‑6000. And if you'd rather talk it through with a neighbor first, message us. We're happy to help, no strings attached.
